when the street sweeper comes to brush the trash to one side keep the avenue clear so the cars can drive i will seek his advice cause i've been dying to know just what it means to dream of pavement and cobblestone when the moonlight arrives to keep the grid system lit i can hear the crowd approaching a fever pitch off to what's-his-name's house inquire how has he been but all this sitting down is wearing my patience thin listen up kid, cause i won't say it twice: it's a shot in the dark, it's a roll of the dice you don't strike me as too much of a gambler. you're just a shard of glass caught in between cracks of a sidewalk that hasn't been cleaned. there is a science to this, but you have got to learn it on your own.

halflight 02:46
come home, a staring match with your phone as if it's gonna help this time, you weren't going in blind so who's to blame but yourself? you need her? well that's completely absurd but who am i to tell you that? so have a good day and stay out of trouble's way i'll see you when you get back i know what you had, i know you wanted it bad but when the sun goes down the colors blur, and though you knew what they were they confuse you now halflight, but you're not waking up right you're nodding off in the shower stall you capsize and tell a comfortable lie that's right, you're better off after all you went in headfirst, told love to just do it's worst were you surprised to find it did? well no more, i'll put it on the top drawer far out of reach for the other kids i know what you had, i know you wanted it bad but when the sun goes down the colors blur, and though you knew what they were they confuse you know

can't stay 02:19
air was thick with promise could've worn it like a shirt but the emperor's naked can't believe i couldn't tell at first "neighbors always getting younger" wish that we could say the same my mind overflows with thoughts i wish i wouldn't entertain if your suffering's getting old, you've got my number in your phone or maybe you don't; i don't know how i'd even know. i still own a pair of socks i don't think i ever bought see the forest and the trees, everything down to the leaves i'm still trying to forget something that hasn't happened yet

mercy 02:06
for a fraction of half a second i thought that the rapture had finally come to pass as i clutched at my face as i stood up too late to effect a change mercy smiled down on my love and me and let us stumble away some people lick their wounds for years on end wrapped in a blanket of isolation, well me i'm not staying in oh no you didn't win no not this time mercy take me back, i swear i'm worth your while and i can prove it to you the air is getting cold as the moon shines it's yellow light over college avenue and the people they just take a seat on the bus to get home soon maybe i will too, with mercy as my guide maybe i'll make it tonight

street tough 01:58
he's known to run his mouth always writing checks he could never cash something's not quite right with him and you can hear it when he laughs carries something sharp the type you can buy at the five and dime and he'll do more than suggest that he's had to use it from time to time the strained transmission gasps as he downshifts coming round the bend the state patrolman sighs as he thinks "ah christ, not this kid again" they have their little chase, and then it ends the way they always do he violates parole, and so, they lock him up for a year or two
6.
it's your compulsion got you upside down it's who you talk to when nobody's around you take a lot, you take a little bit it's tough to lie but tougher still to admit that you spent the last six months on the bathroom floor comes a point when there's nothing good to say anymore i watch the city from the girard bridge all i can think about is how strange it is that time can pass so indescriminately when was the last time you were honest with me? you spent the last six weeks as the voice in my head do you ever think about what might've happened instead? i'll never understand. i haven't been through half of the shit that you have.
